Abstract
Background:To investigate the related factors of musculoskeletal symptoms among hospital workers.

Methods:A total of 735 subjects were analyzed among hospital workers and interviewed by well trained interviewer using the structured questionnaire, which was composed of musculoskeletal symptoms and background characteristics, Multiple logistic regression tested the association between musculoskeletal symptoms and the related factors,

Results:The complaint rates of musculoskeletal symptoms were in order of shoulder, lower extremities, upper extremities, back and neck. The symptoms were affected by sex, phsycial work burden, past history of injury, work department and work duration. In a multiple logistic regression analysis, the odds ratio of work department (hospital clerical/nurse) to neck, shoulder and upper extremities symptoms was 3.63, 3.17 and 2-36 (95% CI 1.97-6.69; 95% CI 1.83-5.49; 95% CI 1.34-4.17, respectively). The odds ratio of nurse to lower extremities symptoms was 1.71, although not significant.

Conclusions:To prevent musculoskeletal disease in hospital workers, it is important to consider work department and job content. Therefore, preventive strategies will be needed to control musculoskeletal symptoms with consideration of job characteristics such as work department for hospital workers.
